Update: Lost Fire In Stanislaus National Forest Is 100-Percent Contained
Update at 1:15 p.m.: The Lost Claim Campground has been closed due to the Lost Fire.
Stanislaus National Forest officials report its closure will run through Friday, July 20th. It is not because of infrastructure damage at the campground. Instead, Groveland Ranger District Recreation Specialist Trent Brown relays that the flames broke out close enough to the ten campsites to warrant cleanup. He explains, “Lost Claim is one of our campgrounds that accepts reservations. Visitors with reservations should soon hear from American Land and Leisure, the concessionaire, to cancel or reschedule their reservations.”
Brown advises that there are other campgrounds in the vacinity including The Pines Campground, which is located behind the Groveland District office and Sweetwater Campground on Highway 120 open to campers. Original post at 11:30 a.m.: Buck Meadows, CA — Full containment has been reached on the seven acre Lost Fire that ignited yesterday afternoon at the Lost Claim Campground near Buck Meadows in the Stanislaus National Forest.
Forest Service Spokesperson Diana Fredlund says, “We do still have some equipment out there. We have three engines and a water tender that are doing the mopping up. It is still kind of smoldering and they are working to make sure everything is out before they leave.”
For anyone planning to head into the forest this weekend, she adds, “Keep being really careful and follow any fire restrictions. If you do have a campfire out there, make sure that it is out and not left unattended.”
