South County Ambulance Tax Renewal Has Very Narrow Lead
Groveland, CA — It is still “too close to call” whether funding will remain in place for 24/7 ambulance service in the Groveland area.
Measure L, which appeared on Tuesday’s ballot, calls for a $90 parcel assessment, in the south county, annually over the next five years. The current assessment tax, which expires at the end of the month, is $70. The increase is to help meet the rising costs of providing service. The Groveland area has had some form of an ambulance tax in place over the past 30 years.
It requires a 2/3 majority for approval, which is just over 66-percent. As it stands right now, 67.5-percent are in favor and 32.4-percent are opposed. We’ll have a clearer picture either late today or early tomorrow when the Tuolumne County election’s office tabulates the thousands of remaining county wide vote-by-mail ballots that still need to be counted.
