Burning Planned In Calaveras Big Trees State Park

Sponsored by:

The Calaveras Big Trees State Park is planning to begin its fall prescribed burning program this week, so smoke will be visible at times.

The park has been conducting prescribed burning since 1976. The goal is to mimic the natural role that fire plays in the ecosystem and reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfire. Natural resource management staff, and CAL Fire, will burn throughout the next several months within the North and South Groves, along Big Trees Village and Blue Lake Springs. The park will be working with the Calaveras County Air Pollution Control District to limit the impacts of the smoke. Visitors to the park are asked to use extra caution if driving near the prescribed fire operations.
