Big Delays This Week Impacting Drivers

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Daytime delays of 15 minutes or more are in store today and tomorrow for motorists using Highway 49/108 in the Jamestown area between Highways 120 and 49, courtesy of Caltrans paving operations underway.

On the morning commute, one-way traffic controls were generating eastbound backups to the Yosemite turnoff. The work zone was the westbound lane about one and a half miles east of OByrnes Ferry Road, where crews using heavy equipment were trenching out a stretch of the roadway and planning more grinding and paving. The work is slated to continue until 3:30 p.m. today and will be in place again tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

In the overnight hours, expect to run into similar delays related to ongoing pre-winter paving chores located further east between Chicken Ranch Road and Highway 108 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. and include a full connector-ramp closure from the highway to the bypass that leads into downtown Sonora until 6 a.m. Too, these activities are focusing during the same time frames on Highway 108 between the 49 bypass and Draper Mine Road. Anticipate various full off and on-ramp closures between Mono Way and Peaceful Oak Road; also more paving activities on 108 from the 49 bypass to Peaceful Oak Road and between Via Este and Draper Mine roads.

Last week in Calaveras County Caltrans completed work on a $3.6 million highway rehab of 12 miles worth of roadway along Highways 4 and 49. The areas included stretches between Six Mile Road west of Vallecito and Davis Ranch Road just east of Douglas Flat on Highway 4 and another one on 49 between the Calaveras/Tuolumne County line and just north of Sonora Street in Angels Camp.
