Update: Two Vehicle Crash Highway 26 Ends With One Fatality

Update at 5:35 p.m.: The CHP reports Highway 26 has reopened after a deadly crash forced its closure and sparked a vegetation fire. Just before 2 p.m. a truck and a car hit head-on near Ridge Road in the Glencoe area of Calaveras County. Both vehicles burst into flames, which ignited vegetation along the highway. One person was declared dead at the scene. It is unclear regarding other possible injuries in that crash.  (Further details on the deadly wreck can be found below.)

Update at 4 p.m.: The CHP reports Highway 26 has reopened to one-way traffic control as tow crews work to remove the wreckage from a deadly crash. (Find details on the accident below.)

Update at 2:35 p.m.: The CHP reports there has been a fatality in the crash involving a truck and car on Highway 26 in Calaveras County. There is no word on how many individuals were involved in the crash or details on possible injuries. The crash sparked a vegetation fire along the highway. Cal Fire Lindy Shoff reports it was contained at a quarter acre.

Original post at 2:20 p.m.: Glencoe, CA — The CHP is on the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 off Ridge Road in the Glencoe area of Calaveras County.

A truck and a car collided and both burst into flames. The CHP reports the flames have spread to nearby vegetation heading up a hill. Cal Fire spokesperson Lindy Shoff reports its a quarter acre in size and moving at a slow rate of spread.

The CHP reports that there are injuries involved in the wreck and that CPR is in progress. Highway 26 is blocked by the wreckage and traffic is backing up. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
