Fire Safe Council Creating New Wildfire Protection Plan

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Highway 108 Fire Safe Council will host a community meeting later this week.

The council is seeking input for a new Community Wildfire Protection Plan, as the original CCWP was created back in 2005. The new plan will cover the northern portion of Tuolumne County including areas surrounding the Highway 108 corridor from O’Byrnes Ferry Road east to Strawberry. The CAL Fire Twain Harte Battalion and portions of the Mi Wok and Summit Ranger Districts make up the new geographic planning area.

The Highway 108 Fire Safe Council is a non-profit organization that is overseen by volunteers and is comprised of representatives from the public, private businesses and governmental agencies, who share a collective interest in reducing and preventing loss from wildfires. We reported recently that one of many projects that the group had helped oversee was the $50,000 Lyons Bald Mountain Road Fuel Reduction Project over the summer.

The meeting is Thursday at 5pm in the Board of Supervisors meeting room in downtown Sonora. It is open to the public.
