Update: Cause Identified In Two Fires In Valley Springs Area

Update at 8 p.m.: Cal Fire spokesperson Lindy Shoff reports that the vegetation fire along Lime Creek Road off west Highway 12 and a vegetation and house fire in Rancho Calaveras where both caused by catalytic converters from vehicles. She adds that the flames broke out in some grass and then spread to the single story home.

Update at 6:45 p.m.: Cal Fire reports that the vegetation fire on Lime Creek Road off Highway 12 has been contained at 4 acres. Crews have also contained a house fire in Rancho Calaveras where the flames spread to 3/4 of an acre. Crew remain on the scene mopping up.

Original post at 6:15 p.m.: Valley Springs, CA– Firefighters are battling two fires in the Valley Springs area, one involving a structure that was fully engulfed in flames.

The latest fire ignited around 5:30 p.m. in some grass behind the Zippy Mart off west Highway 12 along Lime Creek Road. Cal Fire reports the blaze is 2 acres in size and no structures are threatened at this time.

The other blaze began around 5 p.m. and involved a single story home in Rancho Calaveras. When crews arrived on the scene in the 6300 block of Garner Place near Friedman Way the flames had spread to nearby vegetation. Cal Fire reports the grass fire was contained at 3/4 of an acre but the crews are still battling the house fire. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the news center.
