Prop 50 Passes Easily In California

Sacramento, CA — The lone statewide ballot measure during Tuesday’s election, allowing for the suspension of California lawmakers without pay, gained overwhelming approval.
Proposition 50 allows the legislature to suspend the pay of a colleague that is accused of wrongdoing. It was proposed following the high profile criminal investigations of Senators Leeland Yee, Ron Calderon and Rod Wright. The Secretary of State’s Office reports that preliminary numbers show it gaining approval from 75% of voters, statewide. In both Tuolumne and Calaveras counties, 80% of voters were in favor of the measure.
