Local Water Company Issues ‘Boil Water’ Notices

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Approximately 90 water customers are now receiving “boil water” notices due to a water sample that came back today testing positive for fecal coliform.

Officials at the Blue Bell Valley Mutual Water Company describe the action as a precautionary measure after receiving the “bad” sample back and are alerting customers by going door to door with printed notices. The instructions on the materials advise residents of the Blue Bell Valley Development and its other nearby customers who receive Blue Bell Valley Mutual Water Company water to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution until further notice. The company’s D-1 operator, John Turner stated that new samples are now being taken and there is a possibility that the issue may be short-lived.

The company states, at this point, no one should drink the tap water without boiling it first. For safety’s sake, let all water boil for one minute to kill any  bacteria and other organisms that might be in it, and then let the water cool before using it. Water disinfection tablets may also be used by following the manufacturer’s instructions, officials say.
