New Statewide Water Conservation Statistics
Sonora, CA — Mother Lode water districts continue to meet long-term conservation standards set by the state.
According to new statistics released this morning by the State Water Resources Control Board, the Tuolumne Utilities District has cut usage by 34.4% since June of last year. T.U.D. is mandated to maintain a 24% conservation level. Last month, the district customers cut back usage by 26.1%, compared to December of 2013.
Meanwhile, the Calaveras County Water District has reduced usage by 30.6% over the past six months. The mandated conservation level to maintain is 16%. Last month the district only cut usage by 5.7%, compared to the same month two years ago.
Statewide, Californians have cut use by 25.5% since June. In December the statewide conservation rate was 18.3% compared to the same time in 2013. It is often more difficult to cut usage during the winter, compared to the same historical period, because less outdoor irrigation occurs during the cooler and wet months.
