Update: Section Of HWY49 Reopens

Update 4:30 p.m.: The CHP reports a section blocked by mud and rocks on Highway 49 north of Tuttletown Road just reoopened thanks to a Caltrans crew that cleared the roadway. However, the CHP cautions motorists that more debris could come down creating additional traffic hazards with the continued rainfall.

Update at 4 p.m.: The CHP reports a Caltrans truck with a loader just arrived on scene. The crew is working to remove the debris. There is no estimated time of when the highway will be completely reopened.

Original Post at 15:30 p.m.: Tuttletown, CA — The wet weather is making travel difficult in some areas of the Mother Lode with mud and rockslides.

In Tuolumne County, the CHP reports mud and rocks have blocked a section of Highway 49 just north of Tuttletown Road. Officers are directing traffic as the northbound lane is closed. The CHP reports a truck with a loader is heading to the scene to clear the debris, but has not yet arrived. Additionally on Highway 49, in Calaveras County earlier this morning some large boulders blocked the roadway between the Stevenot Bridge and Carson Hill for a couple of hours backing up traffic.
