Calaveras Man Pardoned By Governor Brown

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — On Christmas Eve Governor Jerry Brown issued 91 pardons for criminal convictions.

The most high profile was the pardon of actor Robert Downey Jr. on felony drug charges in Los Angeles that had sent him to jail for nearly a year. Locally, Brown pardoned Timothy Wayne Brooks who was sentenced in Calaveras County in March of 1980 for transporting and selling marijuana. He served two years in prison, 180 days in jail and nine months on probation. Brown’s office reports that Brooks has lived a “honest and upright life” and has exhibited “good moral character” since his release.

While the pardon does not erase records of a conviction, it does restore voting rights and is a public proclamation that the person has remained out of trouble and demonstrated “exemplary behavior.”
