Sacramento, CA — California’s Franchise Tax Board reports that $28-million in income tax refunds went undelivered.

The US Postal Service returned  49,000 personal income tax refunds to the Franchise Tax Board because they were “undeliverable.” Most cases involved taxpayers that had moved but failed to update their addresses with FTB. It’s a fraction of the 10.5 million refunds that were issued over the year, totaling $10.8 billion.

The Franchise Tax Board is encouraging anyone that may be entitled to a refund to check the status online. Click here. You will need to provide your social security number, mailing address, and the refund amount shown on your tax return. Taxpayers can also call 1-800-852-5711.

The Franchise Tax Board reports that refunds are typically mailed out within 7-10 days when you e-file and 8-12 weeks when you mail the return.
