Update: Mudslide Cleared Up At Yosemite Entrance
Updated: 8:34am Caltrans was able to open Highway 140 at the scheduled time last night at 5:59pm. Vehicles over 45 feet are still prohibited and there is on-way controlled traffic for all other vehicles at all times of the day due to the slide. The incident is reported by Caltrans as 20 miles East of the Mariposa County border. The slide is at El Portal a few miles outside of the Yosemite National Park Highway 140 entrance which is now open to visitors.
Yosemite, CA — The massive mudslide that closed the Highway 140 entrance to Yosemite National Park since Tuesday night will be cleared by 6 p.m. tonight, according to park officials. Heavy rains earlier this week caused flooding in the area, which created a mudslide on the roadway.
As reported Wednesday, park officials had hoped to have motorists back on the roadway that evening. However, road crews and law enforcement rangers worked extended shifts in order to get the mud and rocks cleared from the road within two days of the incident.
Luckily, no one was injured in the mudslide.
