Stanislaus Forest Camping Fire, Water Limits
Sonora, CA – Pitching a tent or RVing this holiday weekend in the Stanislaus National Forest will bring new limitations, due to the lingering drought.
The steamy weather and dry conditions have forced restrictions on water and campfires. Forest Service spokesperson Veronica Lopez advises, “Many campgrounds are not offering water. We are limiting our water resources on the forest. So, we do have to ask the public to bring their own water — including the RVs. We don’t have water to fill up RVs. We highly recommend they fill up before they come to the forest.”
Additionally, Lopez advises that it is a good idea to call ahead to find out conditions on the forest lands. “Call our offices to see if there are any fires out there,” she encourages campers. She adds, “You don’t need a campfire permit in a designated campground area. You do need a permit if you plan to do disperse camping and start your own campfire. However, it’s really important to see the fire restriction map to see if you’re not starting a campfire in a fire restriction area.”
One more important reminder: fireworks of any kind are not permitted in the forest.
