Calaveras Foundation Donates $57,743
San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras Community Foundation has awarded 12 grants for 2015, totaling $57,743.
Grants were awarded in three categories, “Aging in Place for Seniors,” “STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,” and “Cultural Initiative.”
In the senior category, a combined $24,000 will go towards a local Meals on Wheels program, Habitat for Humanity’s critical home repairs program and installation of new HVAC units at the Burson Community Center.
In the STEM category, a combined $19,000 will benefit the Bret Harte High Cyberbullfrogs program, math tutoring for foster and at risk youth, Mad Science workshops at Railroad Flat Elementary School, and a Girl Scouts Stem Camp.
Nearly $14,000 was awarded in the cultural category. Money will go towards Angels Camp Museum Field Trips for Calaveras students, a Kids in Motion Dance Class in Railroad Flat, Murphys Creek Theatre’s presentation of “The Winter’s Tale” at Feeney Park, Mokelumne Hill Community Historical Trust’s summer music and arts program, and cultural programs at the Valley Springs Youth Center.
Since its creation in 2000, the Calaveras Community Foundation has awarded $978,000 in competitive grants to local organizations and efforts.
