Jamestown Sidewalk To Slow Traffic
Jamestown, CA – Work will begin next week on the Jamestown Sidewalk Project, which will connect the downtown district with Railtown 1897.
Taylor Backhoe Service, Inc. was awarded the $713,000 contract, as reported in December, to make improvements along the walkway. Tuolumne County was able to secure an estimated $910K state grant to pay for the project, including a Walk of Fame that would start in Rocca Park, travel to Seco Street, to 9th Avenue, to 5th Avenue (Railtown 1897). County officials report crews will begin the work next Wednesday, March 25 with crews working during the day. No end date has been given for the project. Motorists can expect one-way traffic controlled detours along Willow Street, Seco Street and 9th Street, which will create delays.
Here is the County’s construction schedule:
- The project consists of constructing continuous curb, gutter and sidewalk along Willow Street, Seco Street and 9th Street to link Main Street to the Jamestown Elementary School and Railtown State Park, and includes improvements to two bus stops with turnouts, shelters and lighted crosswalks at Fifth Avenue and Seco Street.
- The work will extend along Willow Street between Main Street and 5th Avenue, along Seco Street between Main Street and Preston Lane, and along 9th Street between Seco Street and Sierra Avenue.
- Subcontractors for the project include W. C. Maloney, Inc., Fineline Striping, Collins Electrical Co., Inc., AZCO Supply, California Construction Surveying, Inc., A. C. Dike Co., and Tully Consulting Group.
