Work To Start On Ferguson Rockslide Project
Mariposa County, CA — Work will soon begin on a $133-million project to fully repair a major pathway into Yosemite National Park.
A section of Highway 140 was damaged by the Ferguson Rockslide in 2006. Temporary repairs were made, but only one-way traffic is allowed through that area. Â Crews will remove loose rock debris caused by the slide, and construct a two-lane structure on the original alignment. Â Phase one of the project will remove existing talus material and install cable net drapery to minimize additional rock fall. Phase two will be to construct a 750 ft. structure on the original alignment. Caltrans hopes to have the full project completed by the end of 2019.
A project kickoff event will be this Friday at the site, and keynote speakers will include Assembly member Frank Bigelow, Caltrans District 10 Director Dennis T. Agar, and members of the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors.
