Calaveras Meeting To Update Hazard Mitigation Plan
San Andreas, CA – Ahead of updating its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP), Calaveras County is seeking public input this month.
Under federal law, communities must update their plans every five years to be eligible for FEMA funding relief in the event of emergencies. As the county’s current plan in place, last updated in 2010, is due to expire, the time is ripe, and The City of Angels Camp is a partner in the effort. In the process, the county and city will assess and identify potential new risks, such as the drought, to natural hazards like floods, wildfires, and severe weather events, and determine mitigating disaster management actions to reduce potential losses. Foster Morrison Consulting, which specializes in hazard mitigation and emergency management, will help facilitate the plan update project.
To kick off the efforts, the Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services (OES) will host two preliminary meetings on Wednesday, March 18 in the Board of Supervisors meeting room (891 Mountain Ranch Road) to brief the planners, participating jurisdictions, state and local agencies, and stakeholders. The first session, scheduled for 2 p.m., while intended for the planners, is open for anyone to attend; the second session, to begin at 5 p.m., will specifically seek participation from the public.
