Lane Caught By Deputies
Groveland, CA — The man who led a Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputy on a high-speed chase on J-59, reaching speeds of nearly 120 mph, has been arrested.
The chase on January 4th became too dangerous, and 57-year-old George Michael Lane was able to flee the scene. His vehicle was later found abandoned in the Pine Mountain Lake Subdivision.
Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Sgt. Scott Johnson says, “Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling in Groveland and saw an associate of Mr. Lane’s at the Twin Pine Apartments. A short time later Mr. Lane was located sitting on a sofa in the associate’s apartment. Lane was arrested without incident and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail.”
Lane is being held in Tuolumne County Jail and bail is set at $235,000.
During the initial pursuit, Lane at one time rammed into the deputy’s patrol vehicle. Lane already had several warrants for his arrest for failure to appear in court. He now faces additional charges of evading a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and driving on a suspended license.
