Boxer Not Seeking Re-Election

Sponsored by:

Washington, DC — California will have a new Senator in 2016.

In a video released on her website this morning, Senator Barbara Boxer announced that she will not seek re-election when her term expires. The video featured Boxer’s grandson, and she made a point to emphasize that she plans to remain active in political causes.

Boxer, 74, served in the House of Representatives from 1983 to 1993, and has been a U.S. Senator since 1993.  She will leave office after completing her fourth term in the Senate. The vacancy will likely result in a wide open field of candidates hoping to be her replacement. California has been represented in the Senate by both Boxer and fellow Democrat Diane Feinstein since the early nineties.

Prior to holding federal office, Boxer had served on the Marin County Board of Supervisors.
