Road Stats So Far This Year

Jamestown, CA – Even though the two-day New Year’s holiday was over on Thursday, the CHP’s Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) is not over yet.

The MEP remains in effect until midnight on Sunday, but so far, the numbers are looking pretty good, according to Jamestown CHP unit Spokesperson Nick Norton.

“We have arrested four [people] for DUI, but luckily we have had no fatal accidents, but we have to get through Saturday night,” says Norton.

That is double the number of drunk drivers from last year, but one of those 2013 incidents involved a crash, luckily with no injuries.

“We’ve had some collisions this holiday, but nothing of major significance, just fender benders, no major injuries, which is good, very good,” says Norton.

Last year’s state numbers show that 14 people died in collisions during the New Year’s holiday MEP and more than 450 motorists were arrested for drunk driving.
