Tuolumne County Arts Alliance Winds Up 2014

Sponsored by:

The Tuolumne County Arts Alliance is winding down after a very busy year and the staff along with community volunteers are preparing for big things in 2015.

Connie O’Connor the Executive Director for the Tuolumne County Arts Alliance (formrly the Central Sierra Arts Council) was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The campus for the TCAA is located on Barretta Street in Sonora, in the old Parent Nursery School Building on the north side of the Dome.

Tuolumne County’s public agency for the arts has worked to promote arts in the community since 1978.

Working with the California Arts Council, the Tuolumne County Arts Alliance strives to strengthen our community through the arts.

Despite the lack of consistent local government funding throughout those years, the Arts Alliance has existed and indeed thrived,  through hard work,  a committed membership, leadership, boards of directors, and constant fundraising to accomplish this mandate.

The Arts Alliance is funded mostly by membership dues, occasional grants and by Tuolumne County when the budget allows.

In the upcoming weeks, the public can learn the Japanese art of fabric design or Shibori. In this learn-by-doing workshop, students will work with silk or cotton fabrics by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, compressing, capping or painting, creating an infinite combination of patterns and colors. The final product will be a beautifully Wabi-Sabi wearable work of art.

On December 14th, the whole family can build and decorate a gingerbread house and the gingerbread boys and girls to go with it. The Arts Alliance provides the gingerbread, frosting and trimmings; all you need to bring is your imagination. Build a cabin, a cottage, or a mansion, whatever your heart desires and take it home to nibble on through the holidays.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45am.
