Number Of Blood Draws Down

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Organizers of this week’s Tuolumne County Health Fair say attendance looked strong, but the number of blood draws administered was down.

The number of community members that came out to receive the $25 blood draw was down by 580. There were 2,760 blood draws given over the two days. Since there is not an official attendance count for the health fair, the blood draw is often a way used to gauge community interest.  Tuolumne County Public Health Department Nurse RN Kathy Amos says it’s unclear why the number was down, but says it could be that insurance companies are starting include more expansive coverage.

Amos says it was still a very busy event, and there was an overflow number of booths and vendors.

“I want to thank everyone in the community for making it such a great health fair, and all the volunteers,” says Amos. “There are over 200 volunteers that it takes for this event to come together.”

This was the 36th year of the Health Fair, held annually at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
