Mega Bucks For Mother Lode Schools

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA – Mother Lode schools will soon see their share of the states lottery money.  Yesterday, State Controller John Chiang reported school districts, educational institutions, and State agencies will divvy up the fourth quarter earnings totaling $375 million from the Lottery Education Fund.

Schools in Tuolumne County will receive $988,490.59 and Calaveras County will get $993,158.87. So why is Tuolumne County the larger county getting less money?

“It is based on student attendance and enrollment,” explains Controller Spokesperson Hallye Jordan, “It’s a complicated process, the lottery does the formula, and the controller just writes the checks and disperses the funds to county treasurers.”

The Controller’s Office makes quarterly payments based on Lottery income and unclaimed online prizes.  The total in lottery funds payments for the 2013-14 fiscal year totaled $1.348 billion.
