Prescribed Burn Season

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Don’t be alarmed if you soon start noticing smoke in the region.

Several prescribed burns will start up over the coming weeks in the Stanislaus National Forest. Spokesperson Veronica Garcia says the controlled fires help reduce excessive amounts of brush and shrubs and reduce the risk of unwanted catastrophic fires.

The burns will take place at various times, as conditions allow. Several hand piles, totaling 200 acres, will be burned in the Mi-Wok Ranger District. The piles are near Sugar Pine, Mi Wuk Village, Sierra Village and Long Barn.

141 acres will be burned in the Summit Ranger District of the Forest, just south of Pinecrest along Crabtree Road.

60 acres will be lit adjacent to Hulls Meadows, southwest of Long Barn.
