Holiday Cheer

Tracking Santa!

From feasting on a turkey dinner to reading The night before Christmas, and watching the Grinch’s heart double in size, there are certainly plenty of traditions to enjoy during the holiday season.

Meeting Santa at Standard field in Tuolumne is something my kids did last year and are looking forward to. I was pleased when my son reminded me, “We need to buy a coat!” He is indeed learning the spirit of giving. The Clarke Broadcasting Santa Fly-In Food and Coat Drive is going to be a wonderful event to witness the Mother Lode’s amazing generosity. The on-air cash drive has raised more than $20,000 with donations still to come. Amazing generosity Mother Lode! We are here for each other in the foothills! 100% is going to Interfaith to provide for the basic needs of those in this community. This money will go far this holiday season and into 2011.

Another myMotherLode tradition, also involving Santa is the one started in 1955 by NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, which every year counts down to Christmas Eve and tracks Santa’s whereabouts as he delivers presents across the globe.

Keeping the tradition alive, www.noradsanta.org has started counting down the days. On the NORAD website, kids can play holiday-themed games (a new one is released each day) and get updates from the North Pole as Santa prepares for his big sleigh ride.

Happy holidays to all, and see you this weekend to check in with Santa!
