Motherlode: Hello Winter

Sponsored by:

The first day of winter driving conditions hit the motherlode with authority on Monday.

At around 6 p.m. several large rocks fell onto the roadway at the Highway 120 / 49 junction near Moccasin in Tuolumne County. The roadway was cleared within an hour. Bell Mooney Road near Jamestown had to be closed due to flooding.

As the snow level dropped through the afternoon, several multi vehicle accidents on Highway 108 occurred between Sonora, east to Strawberry.

The CHP requested snow plows to assist several stuck vehicles east of Twain Harte on 108.

CalTrans reports chains are now required on Highway 108, from Twain Harte to the closure near Snow Park.

In Calaveras County on Highway 4 the CHP requires chains from four and a half miles east of Arnold to Mt. Reba.
