State Help For Foster Care

Sponsored by:

Governor Davis has signed a bill that will add 18 million dollars to programs to help foster care children
become independent adults.

During the signing ceremony today at Edmund Edelman Children´s Court in Monterey Park, Davis said the 100-thousand
foster youth in the system are “California´s children´´ who need assistance.

The bill will help those leaving foster care at age 18 in securing transitional
housing and supportive services until they reach 21. It also authorizes a pilot Internet-based program that will help keep track of the children´s health and
education records.
