Fire Investigation Continues

Investigators this morning will continue searching for a cause of the fire that destroyed the main building of the Twain Harte Inn last night.

Fire Marshall Kary Hubbard said investigators were on the scene immediately last night. “The investigation started as soon as the fire started,” Hubbard said. “They watch everything, from the way the fire burns, to talking to witnesses.”

The 15,000-square-foot wooden main building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived just before 10 last night. More than 60 firefighters battled the blaze.

Mike Dobkowski and wife Elizabeth Bally have owned the 24-room Twain Harte Inn only about 8 months.

Dobkowski was in shock as he watched the fire destroy the Inn. “Disbelief would be the best word for it,” he said.

Referring to the six persons left homeless by the blaze, Dobkowski said, “Those people didn’t have much, now they don´t have anything. That’s a sad thing.”

The people displaced by the fire are being helped by the American Red Cross.

Twain Harte Drive is now open to traffic.
