Closing Arguments Monday In Bonds´ Ball Case

Sponsored by:

Closing arguments will continue Monday in the trial over who owns Barry Bonds´ 73rd home run ball.

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Kevin McCarthy today pushed both sides for a definition of possession that he can apply to the case.

At issue is whether Alex Popov legally was in possession of the ball when Bonds hit it into the stands on Oct. 7, 2001.

Both sides agree that a TV news videotape shows the ball was in Popov´s glove for at least six-tenths of a second before a crowd surrounded him.

Popov says he held onto the ball after that, and only lost control of it when it was stolen by the crowd.

The ball could be worth as much as $1 million because it set baseball´s single-season home run record. McCarthy will likely take weeks or months to issue a written decision.
