New Baggers Screeners Start Work At S.F.O.

Early Tuesday morning, 385 federally trained screeners are expected to start working at San Francisco International Airport´s largest terminal.
S.F.O. is one of five airports nationwide allowed to use privately employed screeners. A two-year federal pilot project will compare the performance of private and federal screeners. S.F.O.´s screeners will be employed by a private contractor, Covenant Aviation Security.
About 1,000 screeners total will be deployed at S.F.O. passenger checkpoints. Federal law now requires all screeners to be U.S. citizens.
As many as 800 more guards may be hired to meet the mandate to screen every passenger bag by December 31st.
