California Scores On Academic Performance

Sponsored by:

Nearly 70 percent of California schools scored higher this year on the Academic Performance Index. Scores for the 2002 API were released today. They are based on standardized tests given to students last spring.

The index is a cornerstone of Governor Davis´ efforts to improve California´s schools. It ranks schools on a scale of 200 to 1,000. The 2002 API scores show that 20 percent of the schools hit the statewide target of 800. That´s the benchmark Davis set three years ago. This marks the first year that schools will face sanctions for not improving API scores.
