Russia Lifts Poultry Boycott

Sponsored by:

Poultry producers in California don´t ship much chicken to Russian, but they will still benefit from a trade agreement between Russia and the U.S.

The agreement resolves a months-long dispute and now allows American producers to ship more poultry to Russia

President George W. Bush, in Stockton Friday, said the Russian poultry boycott created a problem.

“It creates a problem for the chicken growers and it effects the prices of other commodities,” Bush said.

Because the surplus chicken is now going to Russia, and no longer sold on the domestic market, the California Poultry federation says growers here could see prices improve.

Russia is the biggest foreign customer for U.S. poultry.
