Bodie State´s Top “Gold” Rush Town

Sponsored by:

The legislative gunfight between two old California mining camps has resulted in the great ghost town compromise of 2002.

A bill that would have designated Bodie as the state´s official ghost town was defeated in the state Senate in June because of opposition from supporters of another former mining camp, Calico.

The bill was amended to designate Bodie, located off State Highway 395, as the official state “gold” rush ghost town and the Senate approved that version of the measure today, 33-to-0.

Senator Debra Bowen of Marina del Rey says Calico was a “silver” rush town and that a bill giving it that designation could be introduced next year.
