Sonora Pass Wagon Train Is Home

Sponsored by:

The Sonora Pass Wagon Train rolled into Twain Harte Saturday just past noon.

The eight wagons and dozens of horses, a re-enactment of the 1852 pioneer trek over the pass, trundled past the famous Twain Harte arch, bringing an eleven day journey from Pickle Meadow on the eastern side of the Sonora Pass to an end.

The wagon train group will camp overnight on the baseball field at Eproson Field.

June Harrison of Lodi, one of the wagon train´s organizers, says seeing the end of the journey is bitter-sweet. “Everyboby wanted to turn around and go back the way we came,” she said of the nearly 60 modern day pioneers on this year´s trip.

The wagon train´s arrival will be celebrated with an all-you-can-eat chicken dinner tonight and a genuine chuck wagon breakfast Sunday morning. These are open to the public. The meals are a way the non-profit group is raising funds to pay for the trip.
