Scientists Urge Bush To Restore Forests

Sponsored by:

More than 200 scientists have asked President Bush to stop commercial logging in the national forests.

The scientists signed a letter urging the president to restore damaged habitat and native species to the forests, saying the economic benefits of the national forests as wildlife habitats and for recreation outweigh the economic impact of commercial logging.

The letter was a project of the Sierra Club, the National Forest Protection Alliance and the U-S Public Interest Research Group

A spokesman for the American Forest and Paper Association says the real threat to forests is a lack of management that results in overgrowth.
