Moscone Goes Solar

San Francisco´s Moscone Convention Center is getting a new source of power, solar power. In one of the first projects to be funded by bonds approved last November, the downtown facility will soon have a four million dollar solar power system mounted on the roof. The city Public Utilities Commission approved the project yesterday. It will combine a solar system that can produce up to 688 kilowatt hours with three million dollars in efficiency upgrades. That part of the project is expected to save about six-point-six million kilowatt hours annually.

The system will be installed by Powerlight Solar Electrical Systems of Berkeley. The company is the largest installer of grid-connected solar systems in the nation. The project is expected to take around 14 weeks to compete.
