Northern California Fire Still Growing

Sponsored by:

A wildfire in northern California´s Siskiyou County near the Oregon border increased to more than 800 acres today, but containment was still expected by Sunday. Firefighters say the rugged, steep terrain is making it difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze, but possible thunderstorms in the region later today could help relieve the 90-degree heat. The blaze is burning about 30 miles south of the Oregon state line and was about 55 percent contained by this morning. Two small roads were closed Wednesday due to the high amount of smoke in the area. They are expected to reopen Saturday. The fire started Sunday afternoon when a backyard debris fire burned out of control. About 600 firefighters are assigned to the fire. They are working to protect the few homes in the area. No evacuations have been ordered.
