Bodie Proposed As State´s “Official”Ghost Town

Sponsored by:

There may not be enough room in California for two ghost towns if state lawmakers pass a new bill conceived by junior high students. A bill before the state Senate proposes that dusty and deserted Bodie be known as the state´s official ghost town. That comes after students at Lee Vining Junior High submitted ideas for legislation to Assemblyman Tim Leslie of Tahoe City. Students say the status would bring visitors and money into the former gold mining settlement southeast of the town of Bridgeport, 13-miles off of U.S. 395. The proposal has rival ghost town Calico spooked. Calico attracts nearly a half-million visitors every year with restaurants and RV hookups located off heavily traveled I-15. The bill needs only Senate approval before heading to Governor Davis´ desk.
