Snowpack Looking Good So Far

Sponsored by:

All this snow is going to be a blessing come summer.

Intrepid snow surveyors ventured into the Sierra Nevada during yesterday´s severe storm and found the snow pack above average and growing.

The state Department of Water Resources says as of Monday, the southern Sierra´s snow pack was 120 percent of normal, while the central Sierra snow pack was about 115 percent of normal.

The U.S. Forest Service has yet to send any manual survey teams to its courses in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Several agencies take snow surveys on a monthly basis throughout the winter but Pacific Gas and Electric Co., which traditionally has measured snow courses in the Stanislaus and Mokelumne river watersheds in December, is not planning to go out until the end of January.
