Celebration Time For Sonora High

Sponsored by:

The birthday party officially got under way Friday night as Sonora High School celebrated 100 years.

Thousands of Sonora High alumni and well-wishers jammed Dunlavy Field to watch the Wildcats Football game. During half time ceremonies school Principal Terry Clark read a letter of congratulations from U.S. President George W. Bush. Area Congressman George Radanovich also was represented. A Congressional proclamation was read.

It was the ultimate homecoming night, with lots of hugs and tears as classmates saw each other and reminisced about school days past.

Class of 1970 alum Cindy Peterson said the enjoyable part of the evening was seeing old friends and catching up. “It´s been fun to talk to people and see the excitement,” she said.

Activities were to continue Saturday afternoon with a BBQ, open house, dedication and cornerstone ceremonies on the campus. The Golden Regiment Band will hold a special concert as well starting at 5 p.m.

Oh, and by the way, in Friday night´s game, the Wildcats beat Galt in a squeaker, 22 to 21.
