Last Day to Register to Vote in Recall

Sponsored by:

Even though the October 7 recall election date may be delayed, the deadline to register to vote is still today.

Registration forms are available online, at post offices, Department of Motor Vehicle offices, city halls, fire stations, libraries, banks and welfare offices throughout most counties. Forms can also be requested by mail or telephone.

Applications for absentee ballots will be accepted through September 30th.

Meanwhile, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco is hearing arguments today on whether to delay the vote.

The ACLU, on behalf of several civil rights groups, says the election should be put off until outdated punch-card voting machines in six counties can be replaced. The voters in those counties make up about 44 percent of voters in California.

Those favoring an October vote, including California´s secretary of state, say it would be expensive and unfair to delay the election now.
