Tuolumne County No. 4 In State For Pot Plants

Sponsored by:

In figures just release this afternoon, Tuolumne County is ranked number four in the state for marijuana plants seized by law enforcement officials last year.

State attorney General Bill Lockyer reports 32,249 pot plants were seized in Tuolumne County in 2002. Only Santa Barbara county, Sonoma county and number one ranked Mendocino County — with more than 103,000 plants — are higher on the list. Calaveras County is ranked 17, with nearly 2,600 pot plants seized.

Last year 56 percent of all marijuana plants seized were found growing on national forest land and other public recreation areas.

Lockyer says the Campaign Against Marijuana Planting or CAMP eradication program for this year is now underway. So far, 10,000 plants valued at $40 million have been uprooted statewide.
