Burn Permits Now Suspended

Burn permits in 28 central California counties are now suspended.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Region Chief Tom Turner made the announcement Friday morning. He´s citing high fire danger and the number of large wildfires in the state so far this summer.

Local Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit CDF chief Fred McVey says as the fire season intensifies, CDF officials hope to reduce the number of wildfire escapes by banning burning.

All residential burn permits within CDF areas in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties are no longer valid.

Campfires within organized campgrounds are allowed. Forest management and agricultural and hazard reduction burning will also be allowed with CDF.
