Fire Breaks Out in Stanislaus National Forest

Sponsored by:

The U.S. Forest Service says there´s a 155-acre wildfire burning in the Stanislaus National Forest near the town of El Portal in Southern Tuolumne County.

Richard Wisehart with the USFS in Sonora said he didn´t know how many crews are working on the fire now. “I´m waiting to get that information,” he said on Wednesday morning.

The fire started around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Wisehart said the cause is unknown.

Wisehart said an air tanker from Columbia Airport is assisting firefighters on the scene.

The “Woodlot” fire may be contributing to the smoke that residents in Sonora are seeing to the southwest of the city.
