PGA Tour Will Play Reno-Tahoe Open

Sponsored by:

Officials for the PGA Tour told The Associated Press today that the Reno-Tahoe Open will be played at Montreux Golf and Country Club as scheduled August 21st through 24th.

Tournament director Jim Kline confirms that the tourney has just signed a new four-year contract to keep the tournament alive. There had been some question as to whether local sponsors would be able to come up with enough money to keep the tournament afloat without a title sponsor. Kline said today the Tour has agreed to subsidize the entire $3 million purse until the Reno-Tahoe Open board can secure a title sponsor. He says there are incentives in the deal that make it critical to find a title sponsor in the coming years.

The contract calls for the event to be played the same week of August that is has been the previous four years. But it gives the Reno-Tahoe Open the opportunity to bid on any new dates that open up in the future.

Dave Lancer is the PGA Tour´s director of information at tour headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida. He told AP thetournament is on the tour schedule and is going to be played as scheduled.

In his words, “Reno is on every document we´ve printed, so we intend to play there.”
