State Now Has Homeland Security Office

California now has an Office of Homeland Security. Governor Davis announced the creation of the office Friday as the federal government raised the national terror alert status to “high risk.”

Davis said there is “no direct threat to California or any other place in America” but he urged people to report anything suspicious to law enforcement.

California Highway Patrol officers are randomly stopping and inspecting trucks just beyond the toll plaza of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The CHP says the inspections are part of a mobile unit that will be roving the Bay Area over the weekend in response to the heightened terror alert.
