Casino Liquor License Challenged

Sponsored by:

The State has received 190 protests to the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk´s request to be able to serve alcohol at the Black Oak Casino. Spokesman for the group that opposes the liquor license, Steve Durgan, says adding alcohol to the situation is only going to make things worse. Durgan and others don´t approve of the casino being there in the first place.

Over fifty other people showed up for a hearing on the issue today in Sonora.

Tribal member Lester Lingo says the Me-Wuk´s are sensitive to the concerns of the community.

An administrative law judge heard testimony this morning. He´ll make a recommendation to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. State officials will make a final decision possibly within the next two months.
