Sierra Nevada Baseball On The Way

Sponsored by:

Organizers of an effort to bring minor league baseball to the Reno-Sparks area have purchased property at the Sparks Marina, one of four proposed sites for a new Triple A stadium.

Sparks Assistant City Manager Randy Mellinger told the Daily Sparks Tribune today that the parcels were purchased by the group going by the name of Sierra Nevada Baseball.

Sparks Marina developer David Dahl acknowledged he sold off part of his property to the managing partner of the group, Clarence “C.J.” Jones. Dahl says they bought eight-and-one-half acres, with an additional 18 acres in escrow.

Officials for Sierra Nevada Baseball insist there´s been no decision on a stadium site. The Triple A Pacific Coast League has endorsed the effort to bring a team to Reno or Sparks by 2005. In addition to the Sparks Marina the other proposed sites are south of Reno on U.S. Highway 395 at Mount Rose Highway…. to the west of Reno, along Interstate 80 near the Boomtown hotel-casino; and in downtown Reno. The parcel of land in Sparks sits between the marina and Don Mellow Park just north of Interstate 80 in an area not yet zoned for development.
